Under Owen’s Master Contract with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works (County), the County has issued several pharmacy projects as Task Orders to Owen. Five of the projects are pharmacies located at each of the five County hospitals and five of the other pharmacy projects include five satellite pharmacies. The five County Hospitals include Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, LAC+USC Medical Center, Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, Martin Luther King Jr. Medical Center, High Desert Medical Center. The five satellite pharmacies are located at USC and UCLA.
Owen is providing all architectural design and multidisciplinary engineering design for each of these compound pharmacies. Owen experts are assisting the County in complying with all the current compounding regulations, which can be highly challenging to many clients. In an effort to increase patient safety, the U.S. Pharmacopeia has implemented USP 797 to control the compounding and administration of pharmaceutical products in the United States. The regulations comprising USP 797 are intended to protect patients by preventing the contamination of compounded sterile preparations. USP 800 has also been adopted to protect patients and pharmacy personnel from exposure to hazardous drugs as part of compounding. In addition to the U.S. Pharmacopeia, many state Board of Pharmacies have adopted their own regulations that must be complied with.
Owen professionals are well versed with these code requirements and will lead the County through the A&E design processes to ensure all design and construction work complies with all applicable codes.
