Henrikson Owen & Associates’ (HOA), Richard Henrikson, PE, LEED AP, is the Executive Engineer on the UC San Diego East Campus Medical Center (ECUP) expansion project. The UC ECUP features a variety of faculty and sponsored health science activities. The campus is steadily growing and consists of medical offices, hospital facilities, medical research and ancillary support/utility system structures. Currently in the design development phase is the Clinical and Transitional Research Institute (CTRI).
This 310,000 SF health science program is located on the north side of the UC East Campus Medical Center and will be completed in 2015. HOA will be performing planning, design, bid and construction phase services working with the existing CTRI design and construction team. The CTRI project will require an expansion of the 13,000 SF East Campus Utility Plant (ECUP), which provides chilled water and emergency power utilities to existing non-OSHPD facilities to the campus. The 3,500 SF ECUP addition will extend utility distribution systems to serve the new CTRI building and accommodate a new chiller and generator power equipment.
The HOA team is providing sustainability options for the ECUP expansion project with a goal of LEED Silver certification through the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). The project will also be required to meet the minimum state requirements for CALGreen Building Code and Title 24.
